6 ways to stimulate your brain

1. listen to Baroque music (a branch of classical music composed in the 1700-1800s)
2. keep asking and answering lots of question in the classroom.
3. challenging yourself by attempting new and more difficult questions and materials everyday.
4. exposing your mind to information beyond the textbooks by reading outside the curriculum.
5. never ever skip difficult topics and chapters, but get excited to figure out the answer!
6. understand that the only way to get smarter is to make mistakes and get confused first!

6 ways to stop brain stimulation

1. skipping chapters or information you think are too difficult or confusing.
2. being afraid of asking question when you do not know something.
3. replying 'I do not know!' and not even bothering of thinking about the answer.
4. only learning things you find easy.
5. copying answers from friends without finding out how to solve the questions.
6. being afraid of raising your hand and answering question in class ( it does not matter if you get the questions wrong, as long as you tried to think of the answer).

left braind good, right brain bad??

if you think about it, 90% of the subjects we are thaught in school are left brain based subjects.
Core school subjects like geography, history, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, english, foreign languages,
economics, accounting, law all require left brain functions such as learning facts, analysing information, rational thinking,
mathematics and logic.

so, if your brain constantly being demanded to perform 90% of the time in school, then what about your right brain?
it is totally under-utilised. As a result it gets 'really bored' and it ends up distracting you instead!

do you day-dream a lot in class or end up doodling on your note pad during lectures? Do you know why this happens?
it's because most lessons involve your left brain functions and so your right brain has hardly anything to do. so it
'looks for something to do'. your right brain happily goes off day-dreaming and makes you want to start drawing and doodling
on any paper nearby.

have you also wondered why you always seem to need to turn on the radio or have some music going before you can study?
same reason! it's because your right brain is looking for some attention.

so it seems your right brain is the main cause of your distractions and lack of attention. the answer to solving
this problem is to involve both your right and your left brain in the learning process! not only does it keep your
right brain happy and occupied, but this literally doubles your brain power since you now use both sides instead of one!
